GET.invest supports “CleanCookingIs…” campaign
12 November 2019 | On November 5, the Clean Cooking Alliance launched the “CleanCookingIs…” campaign, a first-of-its-kind global campaign to generate awareness, engagement and support for clean cooking. Momentum towards universal access to clean cooking is much-needed: eight out of ten people in sub-Saharan Africa are deprived of safe, clean and affordable cooking solutions with adverse consequences for their health and the environment. To help address this challenge, GET.invest has pledged to support the “CleanCookingIs…” campaign and doubled down on its efforts to mobilise the clean cooking sector and financiers to unlock necessary investments.
As part of this reaffirmed commitment, GET.invest hosted a series of activities at the flagship event of the clean cooking industry – the Clean Cooking Forum 2019. This year’s forum convened some 500+ stakeholder to build a more inclusive and prosperous industry. At the event, GET.invest hosted two B2B Matchmaking Sessions and, in cooperation with the Energising Development Programme (EnDev), the very first Clean Cooking Master Class.
The inaugural Master Class saw 12 competitively selected clean cooking companies – five of which are led by businesswomen – from six African countries discuss the pitch-to-investment journey with seasoned advisors of the GET.invest Finance Catalyst. The interactive session was well received, with one participant noting: “I wish I learned about some of the stuff that we discussed today years ago when I first started my business” and another expressing her appreciation for: “the immense support allocated to us during the master class”.
Next to the master class, GET.invest also hosted two B2B matchmaking sessions. 200 face-to-face meetings between 112 entrepreneurs from 31 countries were organised and provided the participants with ample opportunities to explore joint business opportunities. A follow-up survey will soon reveal the number of potential joint ventures that followed from the matchmaking sessions.
