Eurochambres, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, organised a mobilisation workshop for Portuguese companies on Africa’s renewable energy markets in Lisbon, Portugal. In light of this, it collaborated with the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI). The RECP, the Renewable Energy Association for Lusophone Countries (ALER), as well Gesto Energy also contributed to this event. This workshop aimed at informing Portuguese companies about the opportunities in Africa’s renewable energy markets through presenting both case-studies as well as available support instruments within the European Union and beyond.
The organising partners Eurochambres, CCI, RECP and ALER all provided presentations on their services and activities relevant for companies interested in venturing into Africa’s renewable energy markets.
Opening words of Pedro Madeira Rodrigues, Secretary General of the CCI initiated the workshop. Furthermore, Eurochambres member Paolo Baldan presented EU Initiatives, which foster the access for SMEs to the clean-tech sector in emerging markets. After that, Alexander Huppertz presented the RECP and its services to the audience. Next, Isabel Cancela de Abreu, the Executive Director of ALER, gave a speech about the opportunities for European companies in the African renewable energy sector. These speeches were followed by a presentation of Carlos Gueifão, who is the Vice President of Gesto Energy, an energy project developer and consultancy. Carlos Gueifão contributed to the event by presenting some of their projects in Africa and providing lessons-learned based on their hands-on experiences in these markets.
The event closed with a discussion including all the speakers as well as the audience on remaining barriers for the deployment of renewable energy solutions in Africa and possible corresponding solutions.
