Description
The Smart Outcomes component of CEI Africa, managed by GreenMax Capital Group, provides grants to support the productive use of energy (PUE) by green mini-grid developers across sub-Saharan Africa. CEI has now launched its third Smart Outcomes Fund (SOF) call, offering outcomes-based grants to off-grid enterprises deploying stand-alone, renewable energy-powered PUE equipment and technologies that operate independently of any grid connection. Eligible applicants must be active in Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Uganda, or Senegal and have at least six months’ prior experience deploying PUE. Grants range from USD 100,000 to USD 1.11 million, with a reduced minimum of USD 50,000 available exclusively to locally-owned companies. Funding can cover up to 50% of CAPEX and certain one-off deployment costs. Technical assistance is provided on a first-come first-served basis.

Technical assistance
Technical Assistance is offered on a rolling basis within the Smart Outcomes Component program. Under the third SOF call, CEI Africa provides technical assistance to off-grid enterprises deploying PUE technologies, awarding it on a first-come, first-served basis and prioritising companies with prior PUE deployment experience.

Clean Energy and Energy Inclusion for Africa Foundation (CEI Africa) is a consortium between Triple Jump, Persistent Energy Capital and GreenMax Capital Group. KfW established CEI Africa on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development with additional funding from the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation to improve access to energy for rural households and enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa. CEI Africa supports the delivery of climate-friendly electricity by financing green mini-grid developers, renewable energy technologies and off-grid solar companies through two investment windows combined with technical assistance.
