GET.invest welcomes Norad as a new contributor

On 24 October 2023, Norway joined the multi-donor platform Global Energy Transformation Programme (GET.pro), which is hosting GET.invest and GET.transform. As a new donor, it will support the programme’s continued expansion and the development of clean energy markets in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. The initial Norwegian contribution will be EUR 26 million.

The Norwegian funding, provided through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) – a professional body under the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be deployed over a period of three years, ending in June 2026. The new contribution will strengthen the impact of GET.invest across all partner countries while allowing the programme to scale further and support more renewable energy companies and project developers with their fundraising journey.

With the signature of a grant agreement on 24 October 2023, Norad becomes the newest member among the GET.invest contributors. Since 2016, several European donors – the European Union and its member states Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Austria – have supported GET.invest and its predecessor to mobilise investment in renewable energy markets in developing countries.

GET.invest supports energy companies and business developers towards bankability and mobilising finance, including advisory on investment strategy, business case structuring and financial modelling, and transaction advisory. This is complemented by work with domestic financiers for mobilising local currency funding, cooperation with industry associations through events and trainings, as well as investment-related information (e.g. a database of financial instruments). Together with the Access to Energy Institute (A2EI), GET.invest powers the new platform Prospect, which provides real time data and analytics and energy systems and portfolio performance.

Since 2022, GET.invest serves as the Team Europe One Stop Shop for Green Energy Investments, an access point for information about and facilitated access to European support and financing instruments for energy projects and companies in Africa.
