Description
The DBSA's Climate Financing Facility is a lending facility intended to incentivise private investment in low-carbon and climate-resilient infrastructure. The Facility aims to catalyse climate-related investment in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini. It offers blended finance, including debt, to infrastructure projects and businesses that mitigate or adapt to climate change, including off-grid power, solar mini grids, urban solar projects, and energy- and water efficiency. It supports infrastructure projects valued between R150 million and R1 billion, typically funding up to 30 % of total project costs through subordinated loans ranging from R45 million to R250 million. Project sponsors are required to contribute at least 20 % in equity, with private-sector lenders providing a minimum of 30 % in senior debt.
