Description
The Energy Catalyst programme is funded by UK Aid and provides financial and technical support to a range of organisations working in the energy access sector including large companies, start-ups, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), universities and non-governmental organisation. Projects are led by UK based administrative lead organisations and international organisations are eligible as technology leads or project partners. Energy Catalyst funds across three different strands, Early, Mid and Late, based on the development stage of the innovation. Targeted market segments include mini-grids, energy storage, solar PV, clean cooking, smart grids and productive use of energy.

If applicants are successful in receiving funding through Energy Catalyst they are put on the Energy Catalyst Accelerator Programme (ECAP). This supports the commercial development of Energy Catalyst projects including tailored support to each project’s needs and a range of programme activities and materials to facilitate learning, international engagement, investor readiness and dissemination of impact.
