Doreen Karake

Doreen is a seasoned energy and infrastructure lawyer with more than 15 years’ experience. She has advised Government, Off takers and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) on the entire energy spectrum commencing from the feasibility studies, tendering and/or bidding process, negotiating and renegotiating of the various project agreements, to the contract awarding and project implementation.

Doreen is currently the lead on all legal, regulatory and compliance matters on a regional renewable energy project that has been structured as a PPP between three states in the east/central Africa, with an estimated value of over seven hundred million Euros.

Previously she led negotiations and re-negotiations of more than twenty energy transactions (including hydro energy, solar energy, and peat).

Her unique area of expertise has been in investment negotiations for both Government and Private Sector, with a particular strength in negotiating Renewable Energy, Mining and Infrastructure Projects.

Doreen has a B-Juris from the University of Namibia, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Master of Laws in Corporate/Business Law (LLM) from the University of the Witwatersrand (wits), Johannesburg South Africa, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with the Edinburgh Business School.
