Capacity building measures for domestic financial institutions

GET.invest offers coaching, trainings and resources to domestic financial institutions interested in developing and strengthening expertise and processes needed to finance green energy.

The service is open to eligible institutions – such as commercial banks, microfinance institutions and pension funds – in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Starting October 2024, interested institutions can submit their applications online via this page.

Activities and outlook

Through its Enabling Domestic Green Energy Finance (EDGE Finance) service, GET.invest is working with domestic financial institutions to support the flow of local currency financing for green energy in partner countries.

EDGE Finance trainings and coaching are demand-driven, tailored and offered free of cost. Through close coordination with the GET.invest Finance Access Advisory, which supports projects to become investment ready, the service leverages synergies through deep market knowledge and pipeline cross referrals. In addition, it also supports financial institutions to link to different funding and risk management instruments offered by the European Union and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs).

Background

EDGE Finance builds upon two pilots carried out under the banner of Capacity Development for Domestic Financiers in Rwanda and Mozambique in 2021. These were deepened during a collaboration with RENAC on “Green Banking” in Burundi and Nigeria and a cooperation with the German-funded project Access to Finance for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Senegal.
