Following the success of the first edition in Nairobi, Unlocking Solar Capital Africa made its debut in West Africa: this year’s edition was held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on 25-26 October 2017. The Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA) and Solarplaza again joined forces to organise this unique investor conference addressing all solar market segments with GOGLA leading on the off-grid energy content stream and Solarplaza focusing on the utility scale and grid-connected tracks.
With the support of RECP, GOGLA organised the following key components during and around the conference:
- Two off-grid solar investment academies during the conference, aimed at building a common knowledge base of best practices in off-grid investment and helping off-grid solar companies and investors to overcome barriers that stand in the way of successful investments.
- A full afternoon dedicated to structured matchmaking that bought together businesses, financiers and other key market participants from the European and African solar industry. Participants were able to schedule meetings in advance with potential partners through an online platform.
- Prior to the event, GOGLA was teaming up with the African Development Bank to organise an invite-only side event providing an opportunity for African government representatives to meet industry representatives and learn more about off-grid renewable energy solutions. The day focused on market-based solutions for decentralised energy and working towards integrated solutions for electrification.
